Computer Performance.
Just as an engine needs to be maintained by checking fluid levels, replacing parts, and performing tune-ups, a computer must also be properly maintained. A slow computer can cost you time and money. However, just a few simple adjustments can improve your computer performance.

Here are some proven steps to help improve performance:

Clean your computer.
One of the best ways to improve your computer performance is to clean your computer. Cleaning your computer is easy when you have a Windows operating system. You simply select Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - and select Disc Cleanup. The Disc Cleanup utility is pretty self explanatory. All you really have to set are the types of files you want to delete. By clicking on the different groups, a description will tell you a little bit about those types of files and the consequences of deleting them.

Remove or turn off un-needed and un-used software.
A great wat to decrease windows start up time is to remove programs from the start-up folder and remove, turn off or disable programs/icons from running down on the bottom right of the system tray. The more icons you have here typically the slower your computer will go. Most of them are there for convienence and really not needed to be running when windows starts.

Update your software.
When you first purchase your computer, there is usually little need to improve your computer performance. However, as your computer gets older, by even just a few months. New software or updated versions of software may become available. These include updates for your drivers, operating system and other software. Finding updates for your is usually fairly simple. A visit to the creator's website will usually offer any updates and information on how to install the update. Many people do not think to update their drivers. Drivers are valuable software that is needed to operate various hardware devices such as modems, disc drives, video cards, and others.

Organize your files and folders.
In addition to ridding your computer of useless files and folders, it is also a good idea to organize where the files and folders are stored on your computer. In fact, you may think that your computer is already pretty organized, but if you don't defragment your computer you may be surprised. You see, when your computer saves files to the hard drive it saves these files in order. This can result in parts of files that were saved previously being placed in a location away from the newer parts of the file. When your computer calls up these files it has to look in more than one place.

Physically clean your computer.
Another way to improve your computer performance is to physically clean the computer. This should only be done with extreme caution and confidence. It is not difficult to open the case and use a can of air to spray out the dust, DO NOT use a vacuum cleaner. You may want to pay close attention to the fans in your computer that actually impact how fast your computer runs. This fan can actually stop or slow down when clogged with dust and cause your computer to crash.
